Welcome!
Welcome to the Virtual Techy blog!
If you just landed on this
blog we assume you are interested in the constant search of arising
technologies. Well, we’re glad to tell you are in the right place! Here, you
will find posts related to Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR).
Before we go any further… let us introduce ourselves!
The Virtual
Techies are a group of seven master students passionate about innovation
and new technologies who are willing to share with you all the latest updates
in this sector. Whether you are a beginner trying to catch up with those
trendy subjects or someone who enjoys techy news on late nights, this
blog is made for you!
Just so we are aligned on
the topics, we will briefly introduce what AR and VR consist
of, and its main differences and common applications. Let’s get it started!
Talking about Augmented Reality (AR),
we could define it as a computer-generated technology that adds an image to the user’s
view of the real world. It is mostly used in apps and mobile devices,
enabling users to display fictional content in real-world settings. The
definition is a bit too abstract, right? Well, let’s take an example: Who
has never tried Pokemon Go? This mobile app game which consists of catching
Pokemon and fight against other players was a huge success, mainly because
Nintendo applied its well known Pokemon brand in a free Augmented Reality
service accessible to everyone.
Virtual Reality (VR),
however, is based on a different concept. Although it’s also
computer-generated, it is a simulation of reality. This means it
stimulates the user’s vision and hearing by using different isolation devices
like helmets and headsets. VR usually has two main purposes: the first
one is to create an imaginary reality for gaming, entertainment and play while
the second one is to train people for certain real-life situations. How do
you think pilots practice flying complex helicopters in stressful situations
such as hurricanes? They have very elaborated flight simulators!
Although there is a parallel
between the two, there are still some distinct differences which we will
present to you in future posts.
We hope you’ll find our
